Parish News

The (Episcopal) Chapel of Saint John the Divine in Champaign, Ill. is seeking a Janitor (Church Sexton) 15-20 hrs/wk. The Sexton of the Chapel of Saint John the Divine serves is supervised by the Parish Administrator, working closely with all other staff, ultimately answerable to the Rector, supporting the mission of the parish by providing for the cleanliness, room set-ups, maintenance, and safety of the Chapel’s buildings and grounds.

A description of the work of the position is attached.

“Seeing the star, the magi were wildly happy.” And they came in the house, and they opened their treasures, and they worshiped the infant Jesus, “the one born king of the Jews.” Where did they get this “exceedingly great joy”? I think that they were joyful because they were on a journey, a search. They were joyful because, looking at the baby Jesus, the magi knew that they were at a long awaited destination. Presumably, most of their fellow magi stayed home, took no journeys toward the east, refused to go off on some wild camel ride to see a baby on the basis of nothing more than a star.
