Episcopal church in the Champaign-Urbana area of Illinois

The Chapel of Saint John the Divine is a parish of the Episcopal Church, ministering to the community of Champaign-Urbana and the Episcopal campus ministry to the University of Illinois. As a constituent part of the Anglican Communion, we are also church home for international students and scholars.

We are a welcoming, lively, and diverse congregation offering mindful ways to worship, learn and serve. We invite you to join us as we seek to worship and follow Christ. ALL are ALWAYS INVITED and WELCOMED!

“Seeing the star, the magi were wildly happy.” And they came in the house, and they opened their treasures, and they worshiped the infant Jesus, “the one born king of the Jews.” Where did they get this “exceedingly great joy”? I think that they were joyful because they were on a journey, a search. They were joyful because, looking at the baby Jesus, the magi knew that they were at a long awaited destination. Presumably, most of their fellow magi stayed home, took no journeys toward the east, refused to go off on some wild camel ride to see a baby on the basis of nothing more than a star.
