Our Ministries
Social Action
Our Social Action Committee impels our response to the needs of a
broken world and administers our grant program to agencies and
ministries at home and abroad. Many of our members are involved in the
work of local agencies and organizations and would be happy to
introduce you to their work. In addition, our Canterbury Association
raises funds for a community outreach program in our Companion Diocese
of Barbados. Several of our students spent Spring Break 2003 on a
work-study trip to Barbados. Our Youth Group participates in the
Appalachian Service Project during a workweek in the summer. And our
weekly food collection is part of a network providing staple foods to
those in need. We are developing programs and service opportunities in
response to the Church's designation of the Millennium Development Goals as a mission priority.

Sundays and for various special services. Our children's program for
Choristers is affiliated with the Royal School of Church Music. The
Choristers are an integral part of the Choir. Choir rehearsals are at
7:15 pm on Wednesday evenings. Childcare is provided for rehearsals.

Liturgy
Acolytes, lectors, ushers, and sacristans help us maintain our active
life of worship. Let us know of your availability. We always need
people of all kinds and of varied skills to assist in the work of the
church. We're able to find tasks for anyone willing to perform them.
Please offer your services!

Canterbury Student Association and Campus Ministry
Students, (both undergrads and grads) are an integral part of life at
St. John's, involved in every dimension of our activity and ministry.

worship, service, and fellowship. Our Peer Ministers have a special
commitment to our student programs. They're here to welcome, organize
and advise. They can help you find your way around the campus and
congregation. This year's Peer Minister is Steve Ishmael
(ishmael2@uiuc.edu). For more information, click here.
Note to Anglican Students: The Episcopal Church in the United

Friday Forum
We join with other campus religious foundations in sponsoring this
distinguished series addressing contemporary issues and concerns. The
Forum meets beginning with lunch at 11:45 am (by reservation). The
speaker is introduced at 12:15, and a question/answer period is from
1:00 - 1:30. Presentations may be attended without purchasing
lunch—many people bring a brown bag. Watch for each semester's calendar
of events. The Friday Forum meets at the University YMCA and their
website can be found here: http://www.universityymca.org/friday_forum.html.
