Easter at St. John the Divine
Posted March 20th, 2010
Easter Celebrations begin with the Great Vigil of Easter ~ Easter Eve at 10:00 p.m.
The service begins in darkness with the lighting of the New Fire and the blessing of the Paschal Candle which burns throughout the Easter Season to symbolize the presence of the Risen Christ. All receive light from the Paschal Candle, and the Vigil continues with prophecies, canticles, Holy Baptism, and the First Eucharist of Easter.
Services on Easter Day
The early morning service, at 8:00 a.m., is a simple, said celebration of the Eucharist.
The service at 10:00 a.m. is Festal Choral Eucharist. Child care is provided at 10:00 a.m. An Easter Egg hunt follows the service.
